Getting to know Eli, 27 & 28

As mentioned, I'm doing the 30 Days of Character Development meme for Eli, the protagonist of the story I started working on for NaNoWriMo. Since November is over and most of these questions have short answers, I'm now doubling up the days to keep things moving around here.

Only one day left after this one!

27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.

Ooo... another tough one, mostly because I haven't thought about it at *all*.
1 - "If you're going through Hell" by Rodney Atkins, which is an appropriate song for any crappy, tough time in someone's life. For Eli, it would probably be when he first joined the Skatoi mercenaries and was getting a different style of magicial instruction AND being run through the full basic training of any new recruit, and what little free/social time he did have was colored by the mild but constant hazing-type attitude the Skatoi have towards "the new boys."
2 - "Newborn" by Muse, which fits well with Eli's quietly distraught state immediately after a horrific campaign that culminated in Eli having to set fire to lots of living or apparently living things.

28.) If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?
